Regroup! Restore! Rebuild!
Colloquium Day One
May 24, 2017

Annually, USC’s Faculty, Staff and Administrators participate in a three-day retreat.

Known as "Colloquium," this annual event provides an opportunity to plan together and create stronger bonds with each other. This year, on the first day of the Colloquium activities, attendees were whisked away to an initially secret destination after gathering at the main campus' Administration Building car park from 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, 24 May.

Activities commenced with singing and worship on some of the buses. Guests arrived at the picturesque Mariposa Gardens, Lopinot. Beach chairs and blankets were laid out on the lawn, beneath a sprawling saaman tree.

Pastor McPherson shared the beauty of Psalm 14. USC President, Dr. Hilary Bowman and Vice President for Academic Administration, Dr. Wanda Chesney greeted the attendees. Jouvel Joyles’ engaged faculty and staff in an innovative ice-breaker. Dr. Faith-Ann McGarrell led out in an interactive activity, “Building Effective Mentoring Relationships.” This activity mimicked the speed-dating format. It allowed participants to have face to face, one-on-one interaction; answering questions and sharing insights.

Dr. Tracy Hislop, with the help of fellow USC Occupational Therapist, Dr. Lesley Garcia and the wellness team, manned booths with heathy options. They were also instrumental in providing free massages from H.E.R.O.E.S (Health Emergency Rescue, Occupational Safety and environmental Services) to colloquium early birds.

Dr. Claudette Mitchell tested guests’ knowledge of health principles. Prizes of fruit baskets were distributed.

Mr. Orlando Pyle and the SPED team p/*members presented the aerobic challenge

One attendee summed up the experience by saying that “Today was a wonderful experience…The variety of fun activities, the prizes, the pace, the length of the presentations…the environment and more…too many things to mention…”
