New Presidential Call: “Embrace the Vision”

The New Year 2012 signals new beginnings for USC, along with its new President, Dr. Clinton A. Valley. At the first 2012 Student Assembly, he presented his vision for USC for the next five (5) years. He identified 5 strategic priorities: Character Development, Curriculum Development, Campus Development, Community Development, and Workforce Development. He called on the University to “embrace the vision,” for continued growth and development.

Dr. Valley said, “In 2016, the USC campus would be characterised by Christ-likeness in our classrooms, in our offices, in the dorms, and in all our relationships.  It would be a campus that upholds the truth, stands for principle and transparency in its operations, listens to all sides, cares for its faculty, staff and students, and honours the name of Almighty God.”

He added: “2016 will see USC positioned as the Caribbean first choice University in its selected programmes for teaching, scholarship and research in a holistic, life-changing, Christ- environment.  Our faculty would unleash the full potential of our students as they engage them in practical projects outside the classroom, making their learning relevant and usable in the work environment.”

In his concluding comments, he said his bold 5-year vision for the University is achievable, if it is supported by the campus community.  Encouragingly, he said, “We have nothing to fear for the future except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us and his teaching in our past history.

During the session, President Valley received endorsements and commitments of support from the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Kern Tobias; the Director of Education, Dr. Hillary Bowman; the presidents of the Faculty and Staff Senates, and the Associated Student Body.
