Honouring Those Who Left Footprints
On November 8, the setting sun reflected on the waterfront, which mirrored the events of the evening, soon to be held in the Hyatt Regency Ballroom. Many had gathered to honour the faithful service of five individuals, formerly connected to the University of the Southern Caribbean, the Caribbean Union Conference and the South Caribbean Conference. These individuals were: Dr. Eugene Daniel, Dr. Trevor Gardner, Dr. Patricia Gardner, Pastor Clyde Thomas, and Mr Rolph Cedeno.
The evening commenced with the entrance of the honourees, some of whom were shedding tears, to the alluring sound of Mr. Laurence Gudge’s saxophone. The entrance was followed by a welcome from the Master and Mistress of Ceremony, Pastor Clive Dottin and Mrs Phyllis Woolford.
Hundreds of specially invited guests were elegantly entertained at this Celebration Service hosted by the University of the Southern Caribbean and the Caribbean Union Conference. These guests included the likes of Justice Rolson Nelson, and Mrs Nelson, Member of Parliament Mrs Joanne Thomas, and also, the Presidents of the various Adventist conferences.
Special tributes to the Honourees were paid by individuals who knew and worked with them over years. In sum, they were all described as hard workers who had the University, churches and conferences at heart, and had all taught many what it really meant to be a leader.
On the lighter side, someone joked about the opinion that Dr. Trevor Gardner may not remember in the near future that he was no longer the President of USC – just because he forever had the University and its interests in his heard and on his mind.
Soothing music accompanied guests while they took pleasure in a scrumptiously prepared buffet-style dinner. Care-free banter, chit-chat, and fond reflections on time spent with the honourees filled the air as individuals mixed and mingled making that Tuesday evening one to remember.
Dr. Trevor Gardner and his wife Dr. Patricia Gardner, effective January 1, 2012, will assume the position of President at the Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica, and will be succeeded by newly appointed, Dr. Clinton Valley who will also assume his position on January 1, 2012.
The University wishes the Drs Gardner success and God’s blessings, and also sincerely thank them for providing dedicated service and uncompromised leadership to this University.
