USC Board Appoints New President
The University of the Southern Caribbean has announced the appointment of Dr. Clinton A. Valley as its next president. Dr. Valley, a Trinidadian, succeeds Dr. Trevor Gardner who has recently accepted the position of President of Northern Caribbean University in Mandeville, Jamaica. The new appointment is effective January 1, 2012.
Dr. Valley, the brother of former Government minister, Ken Valley, is currently the Dean of the School of Education at La Sierra University in Riverside, California, USA. Prior to this, Dr. Valley has worked in Trinidad, the United Kingdom and the United States in various capacities as a church pastor, high school principal, university professor and as Associate Academic Vice President of Walla Walla University in Washington, USA. Dr. Valley is a graduate of the University of the Southern Caribbean, and holds an MA from Andrews University and an Ed.D from Western Michigan University in Michigan, USA. He is married to Mrs. Martha Jueanville Valley who is a Special Education Teacher. The Valleys have two adult children-- Clintelle and Clinson, who are both married and reside in Atlanta, Georgia.
President of the Caribbean Union Conference and Chairman of the USC Board of Trustees, Dr. Kern Tobias, announced the appointment of Dr. Valley at a dinner reception held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Tuesday evening. Dr. Tobias said that Dr. Valley's appointment heralds a new day for USC and the university is delighted to welcome a "son of the soil" to lead the institution as it charts a new way forward.
The University of the Southern Caribbean is a Seventh-day Adventist Christian institution located in Maracas, St. Joseph, Trinidad; and offers bachelors and masters degrees in various disciplines. USC is recognized as a tertiary level institution by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago through its accreditation body, the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT). Additionally, students who are citizens of Trinidad and Tobago benefit fully from the GATE scholarship program.
