Students Crazy About Ministry

On September 17, 2011, Campus Ministries re-launched its “Love They Can Feel” Student Ministries in the Main Auditorium of the University of the Southern Caribbean. This annual event ‘kicked-off’ with a group of ministries where USC students are able to extend love and compassion to those in need. The activities planned and executed by these ministries are felt both on and off campus. Approximately 200 students attended and participated in this event.

During the re-launch, students gave testimonies of how their lives have been transformed because of their involvement in ministries and missionary work. It was fascinating to hear how mere students could be such great instruments in the hand of God to reach others for Jesus. They also emphasized that there is no regret when your life is used in service for God. The His Luv Choir blessed all present with their magnificent performance of the theme song ‘Show Me Your Way”.

In addition to the many testimonies, the main feature was done by Ms. Rene Joseph a final year law student. Her presentation focused on key points such as: The world we live in is in need of love, and therefore now is the time for young people to become involved. She added that love is a verb not a noun, and so admonished students to give one hundred percent participation.

The director of Campus Ministries, Pastor Linley Beckles in his Opening Address, commented on the history of “Love They Can Feel” ministries and how the department plans to sustain it. He mentioned that serving God through various “Love They Can Feel” ministries would help someone recognize that there is a God in heaven who takes care of his people. He also said that “Love They Can Feel” ministries is a wonderful opportunity for students to demonstrate to others the love of God that is in their hearts and consequently people will find their way to God.

Seventeen Ministries were re-launched on that day namely, “Community Action Projects and Services” (CAPS), “Hearing Impaired ministries” (HIM), Believers Reaching Out” (BRO), “Community Language Services” (CLS), Everyday attaining Gods Love and Eternal Salvation” (EAGLES), “My Brother’s Keeper” (MBK), “Kingdom Empowered exceptional Persons In transition” (KEEPIT), “Repairer of the Breech”, Power Packed Kids”(PPK), ‘Young Missionaries Club” (YMC), Peer Chaplaincy Club” (PCC), Individuals Making Accountable Choices Together”(IMPACT), Healing ministries, GOTEL, “Faith Intercessors Restoration Ministries’(FIRM), “Religious Instruction in Secondary School” (RISS) and “BETTER MEN” (BM)

One of the ministries CAPS, has already put in place its plans and activities for this school year. Under the leadership of a nursing student Anika Woods, they have outlined the following activities. They plan to visit homes for the aged, children’s home, and the children’s cancer ward of Mount Hope Hospital including many more. This ministry works in collaboration with the Spanish Club and the School of Nursing.

This re-launch was indeed a success as students signed up to give their time and energy for the work of God. It was a delight to see students and young people excited about ministry.
