Things to Remember
Student Life & Activities
At university, social life is very important. The social programming of the USC is intended to foster the development of healthy relationships between and among sexes, to develop good social skills in formal and informal situations and to encourage Christian attitudes and behaviour.
The Department of Student Development coordinates the social programs on the campus. The students are invited to participate in all the campus activities that help to develop balance and increase communication with each another.
On the campus, there are areas designated for recreational activities. These include:
- The "slab" between the public road and Cedar Hall, where cricket, basketball, and volleyball are played.
- Linda Austin Lawn Tennis court.
- The campus playing field next to the primary school.
- The Student Lounge.
- The gymnasium, located at the north western end of the Kennedy Industrial Arts Building. The gymnasium is open six days a week. Visit the Sports and Physical Education Department (S.P.E.D) for more information and gym hours. Note weekend hours will change during the summer.
The student lounge may be used to play games or entertain visitors and friends. Within the student lounge, there is also one of the University's snack shops. Card playing, and other games associated with gambling, are not permitted on campus. The use of the lounge is for the positive development of the student body. For use of the student lounge outside of school days, students may contact the Office of Student Development, Ext. 211.
The ASB and the department of Student Activities foster extramural games such as soccer, cricket, volley ball, basketball, lawn tennis, table tennis and football. These popular activities provide occasions to socialize and relieve tension. Mini competitions are also organized.
