Whether you are currently studying, searching for information about one of our graduate degrees or have a research area that you would like to develop, this is your door to a rich experience.

Research Grants

Faculty and Staff

The University through the Department of Research supports faculty and staff to adequately carry out their research, and communicate and publish the results of these studies. This package includes “seed” or grant money, fellowships and capacity building/ training. Internal financial assistance is intended to promote seminal pilot projects where baseline data is one of the outcomes as well as collaboration and mentoring. Results from these studies can then be used to apply for external funding from public and private sector donors. Fellowship awards are another funding mechanism. These are available annually and support pilot projects as well as externally oriented applications; and in order to ensure quality research projects, the Department provides workshops and seminars in areas including research methods, grant writing and research ethics. For more information, interested faculty and staff can contact Ms. Terry-Lee Howard at Ext. 1656 or visit our website.

Students

In addition to mentoring opportunities with research faculty and staff and their projects, undergraduate students can also apply annually for a Rita Batson Research Scholarship. To apply, a student must major or minor in one of the following disciplines: Biology, Chemistry, Food and Nutrition/Health, Nursing and Psychology. Application forms are available from the Department and should be submitted by the prescribed deadline.

Funding Priorities

Please note that in establishing priorities for research funding the Department is guided by the following:

  • The urgency of the project
  • The national or regional contribution it is likely to make
  • The likely effect on the further development of undergraduate and graduate studies
