Services Offered:

  • Summer internship - The internship program at the University of the Southern Caribbean is one component of an extensive career planning process available to students through the Career Development Services department. It is designed to give students the opportunity to undertake a professionally supervised and planned work experience that relates to their academic program and career.

  • Alumni Mentoring Programme - The Career Development Services department offers this mentoring programme to match seasoned professionals with budding professionals. All mentors in this programme should be alumni of the University and are expected to mentor the students on a voluntary basis.

  • Individualized Career Counseling - Individual sessions and group assessment sessions are available at the CDS and also information about careers people in various majors commonly choose.

  • How to prepare a Cover Letter - Everyone that submits a resume should include a cover letter, which is usually the first thing an interviewer will look for. A well planned cover letter will tell the recruiter if you are worth considering and if they should read your resume to learn more about you.

  • Resume Writing (do’s and don’ts of resume writing) why do I need a résumé?
    • A résumé tells the employer what you have done in the past and what you can do for the company.

    • A résumé provides an advance contact with the employer, and for the employer to generate interest in you, so that the employer will want to interview you.

    • Your résumé is the tool you will use to sell yourself.

  • Preparing for Interviews (do’s and don’ts of an interview) Understanding the Interview Process
Many people think of the interview process as an interrogation; however, the interview should be looked at as a two-sided conversation in which both sides play an equal role. Admittedly, the major reason for being there is for the interviewer to get to know you and what you are capable of, and if you are the right person for the position.

  • Mock Interviews - Preparing thoroughly for the interview is very important, as this is your opportunity to convince the potential employer that you are the person they are looking for. Therefore, careful preparation will give you confidence; control and the ability to deal effectively with any questions you may be asked. Students who wish to gain interview experience and receive feedback on their interviewing skills are encouraged to sign up for a mock interview.

  • Dressing for the Interview - "What am I going to wear?" This question is frequently asked, basically, its common sense. Find out more.

  • Job search assistance - The Career Development Services department will help graduating students to find jobs or assist with information about finding jobs in particular career fields.

  • Networking opportunities with employers - The Career Development Services department will network with businesses and industries throughout the year both on and off campus.

  • Recruitment Symposium - The Career Development Services department will host a yearly recruitment symposium whereby companies/industries will come on campus to interview with graduating students

  • CDS Resource Library - The Career resource library at the Career Development Services department will house a modest collection of career-related books and information for the perusal of students.
